Every Super Bowl is filled with story lines, and this year is no different. The Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks have been presented with the task of playing in a cold outdoor Super Bowl in the New Jersey swamp land against each other, in what may be one of the better Super Bowls to date. The weather may be a factor, but the best offense (Denver) going up against the the best defense (Seattle) is going to make this Super Bowl very fun to watch. People across the nation have said that playing in the cold Super Bowl is not fair for both teams, if that's the case then the Broncos and Seahawks should of stayed home. That's my feeling.
The talk of Super Bowl 48 has been all about Peyton Manning and his legacy. Yes, Manning is a living and breathing legend who had one of the best seasons as a quarterback, but has a monkey on his back when it comes to playing in big games, especially cold weather games. He has the chance to add to his legacy with a second Super Bowl ring, but if he loses, he may fade off into the shadows of retirement. The Seahawks also have the chance to put a stamp in the league as a regular contender for the foreseeable future with a Super Bowl victory. Russell Wilson could also show everyone that he is the best young quarterback, and be the first to win a ring from a new generation of quarterbacks.
The Seahawks though haven't received as much attention as the Broncos have had unless you think Richard Sherman's rant was worthy of attention?
But Sherman had every right to go off on a rant about how good he was and is. Yes, Sherman's rant took away from the Seahawks victory in the NFC Championship game, but maybe it was all part of the Seahawks plan. Sherman is by all means intelligent and smart, but like the rest of the Seahawks defense, they are intimidating and will get right in your face. Oh, and did I mention they own the number one defense in the NFL.
The Seahawks defense may give Manning and the rest of the Broncos offense problems and may force Manning to hand off the ball rather than sling it down field. Unlike the Broncos, the Seahawks have proved every week that they are more than capable of winning the big game, even if it means taking on the under-dog role, while the Broncos play as the favorite.
This game is going to come down to who wants it more. Like most games in all sports, heart and the will to win will be the biggest factors. As Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch said on media day "We have some dogs on this team." Super Bowl 48 will indeed bring some dog out in every player from both sides because playing in 30 to 40 degrees does that.
Predicting this Super Bowl is tough because in reality, this game can go either way. There will probably be no kind of blow out (hopefully), but one can only hope for a close game. The Broncos were favored to get to the Super Bowl this year, and the Seahawks were good enough to contend while being constant underdogs to their division rivals; the 49ers.. That's were the difference has been.
There is no stand out superstar on the Seahawks yet, like the Broncos have.That may be the key to winning it all; being underdogs. If the Seahawks win, it would be a great story for the pacific northwest, where attention is somewhat limited, and could also elevate players like Wilson, Shermon, and Lynch into NFL superstars. If the Broncos win, Peyton Manning solidifies his place among the football icons and the Broncos add another Super Bowl victory to their franchise, while also proving that having a mobile quarterback is overrated.
In the NFL, Super Bowls are everything to star players and their teams. It's an element that propels their legacies into lasting memories. No one ever remembers the loser of the Super Bowl, that's why it's important to win it! Plain and simple!
Peyton Manning has the most to lose out of everyone taking the field. He is the icon, who is looking to add to his resume and legacy, If Peyton can win in a freezing cold game against the best defense in the league, then his proof of greatness wouldn't be overlooked again. But if he loses, it's going to hurt and put a black eye on his legacy. Coming up short in big games.
Super Bowl 48 could be close and leave us all in shock, by putting on a great game for the world, but all eyes will be on Peyton Manning and his legacy going up against the dominate Seahawks defense. That match-up may give us fans, a Super Bowl for the ages...
